BORN IN GERMANY
I’m Stephan Wetzl aka TrashPixels a German born Creative Director, Digital Product Designer IXD/UI/UX,
Entrepreneur Builder of internet things with a focus on designing innovative human-computer interactions and cross-platform software environments.
Being on the grind for over a decade, I've had the privilege of working with agencies and artists such as American Express, Red Bull, Rihanna, Philipp Plein, Tigerspike, IHS, Riedel, Havas Life, McCann Erickson, IWC, NowThis Media & many more.
I was born in Rosenheim, a little city in Bavaria/Germany. I grew up in beautiful Klagenfurt in the Austrian Alps and Boca Raton, Florida. In my late youth I had the amazing opportunity to travel around the world, working as an international fashion model for clients and brands like Gucci, Diesel, Calvin Klein, Ermenegildo Zegna, Coca-Cola, Nivea, GQ, Vanity Fair, Sony and Otto - represented by Beatrice, Modelwerk, MC2, Irene Marie, Evviva, Kult and Panache. I’ve been then on the road for many years and lived in fascinating cities like Tokyo, Capetown, Milan, Miami, Vienna, Hamburg and Athens until I found my home in New York City.
In my early teenage years I was homeless and it was then that I started my special relationship with design and art. I was introduced to, and instantly fell in love with, graffiti bombing of walls and trains. This became my obsession and my release, but also kept me out of lots of trouble and made me focus on my life. This time period really shaped my character and bound me to design in a permanent way. It also made me a better and stronger person with a true appreciation for the little things that make life so beautiful everyday.
Innovative gadgets and software have always intrigued me, while also being amazed and stunned by the meteoric rise of the Internet, social media and web publishing platforms. In the mid 2000’s, startups like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Squarespace, WordPress, Digg and, of course, the game changer of our time – Apple’s iPhone and innovative mobile apps – truly captured my attention.
After purchasing my first Mac, I discovered my enormous interest in Graphic, Web and Interface Design. It was then that I started to follow my newest and strongest passion and took a break from the fashion industry to start studying Communication Arts + Interactive Media at the Design Factory International in Hamburg, Germany.
Long story short, at the end of my 4th semester on a trip to Florianópolis, Brazil I've met Director Christian Lamb who offered me the amazing opertunity to work for him as a Visual Designer on Rihanna's Last Girl On Earth World Tour. I’ve decied then to take a break from college, packed up my things, moved from Hamburg to New York City, launched TrashPixels LLC and started my carrier as an indepenedent creative, and never looked back.
I've took big risks in my life no doubt. Following your passion is not an easy road, takes a lot of hard work, focus, and many personal sacrifices. But unless you try something far beyond your limits and comfort zone, you will never grow... Looking back now, New York City really made me to who I'am today, and that makes it to one of the best decisions I have ever made. Now I really love what I do and I firmly believe that one can only reach success and achieve happiness when being enthusiastic and passionate about what one does.
I currently reside and travel between the East Village of NYC and Austria where I work remote or on location as a Digital Product Designer for startups, agencies, clients and charities in the USA and Europe. I focus on User Interface, User Experience Design and building digital brands, cross-platform software, products and environments.
In my free time I am always working on some new projects and creative ideas. I'm the founder of MuseLayers and Cyberbelt. I'm also currently hosting and producing the TrashPixels & Friends Show that streams on Twitch.TV. I am a relatively new streamer but i absolutely love the Twitch community. Because It's not just a game, it's a passion and a lifestyle.
On the rare ocassion when my Mac is off, I love to spend time with friends and family, grind The Division and ESO with my pals from the PSN, I love to study, read and chat about technology, science, physics, plolitics, futurology. Taking walks through the Austrian forrests or explore NYC with my dog and loyal partner in crime Pixels.
